Earlier on this blog I posted about a prehistoric (man)rayograph, using a negative of an engraving from 1810 to stand alongside a modern rayograph--today though I found an engraving int eh same category but already in negative. This one is from the American Horological Journal (volume 4, November 1872) and bears more than a passing resemblence to the modern avant-garde photographer's x-ray work--or perhaps I am pushing teh envelope on their relationship. Bottom line, though, is that the technical aspects of these clockworks are artistic visions in themselves, even when completely out of context (even as lovely as they are in context).
