Mathematical Art: "The End of Simple Multiplication", 1814

I found this fabulous example of multiplication in a student's workbook, written out in 1814.  Undoubtedly the sub-title, "the end of Simple Multiplication" was not intended to imply the literal end of multiplication (though the thought does invoke some interesting bits of fiction), just the result. It is simply a gorgeous object.
